Feel Bulgaria – One extraordinary journey

Feel the spirit of Bulgaria by visiting some of the most popular rural areas. You will have a chance to taste the unique cuisine of this region, to visit a typical Bulgarian house, to climb mountains and to explore caves. Feel the spirit of Bulgaria! 


Day 1 Sofia – Koprivshtitsa

Arrival at Sofia Airport. Departure to Koprivshtitsa-one of the symbols of Bulgaria, famous for its unique architecture, history and houses from the Bulgarian National Revival. Koprivshtitsa is tucked in the bosom of “Sredna gora” mountain, surrounded by age old forests, brought to life by crystal clear streams and rivers and the ancient echoes of the Bulgarian revolutionary spirit. The small town lies on Topolnitza River, also known as Topolka. Koprivshtitsa is a real example of the best Bulgarian architecture with many well preserved houses from the Bulgarian National Revival during the late 19th century. Our tour starts with Lyuben Karavelov Museum, Georgi Benkovski Museum, Dimcho Debelianov’s House and Todor Kableshkov’s House. Then we will visit Uspenie Bogorodichno Church , The “St. Cyril and Methodius” – the first class school in Bulgaria(1837),  The Commemorative plaque, „First Gun” Stone Bridge,etc. Free time. Accommodation. Overnight. 

Day 2 Koprishtitsa - Panagyurishte - Kostenets 

Breakfast. Departure to Panagyurishte – one of the most remarkable towns from the Bulgarian National Revival. Visit of Rayna Knyaginya  House – Museum, Toutevs’ House – the place where the April Uprising was proclaimed in 1876, the History Museum,etc. Free time. Departure to Kostenets- one of the famous spa resorts in the country with numerous mineral springs. You will have an opportunity to visit the Kostenets Waterfall or just have a walk around the forest. Accommodation . Overnight. 

Day 3 Kostenets-  Kovachevitsa 

Breakfast. Departure to Kovachevitsa. The small picturesque village is situated near Kanina River, famous for its pure waters, wide variety of fish and beautiful waterfalls. The village is named after the wife of a famous local blacksmith, Marco, who died in his prime and left a large family to the care of his wife, known by the local people as Kovachevitsa. The woman became popular among her fellows as a wise and intelligent person, who was often sought for advice. The old charming small streets and well preserved rural houses will take you to the past of this lovely place. There are 110 well-preserved houses, some of them transformed into a small family guest houses. They all offer some traditional Bulgarian meals, which you can taste only here. The village is a tourist destination since 1977, when it was proclaimed as an architectural reserve. Kovachevitsa is like a new world, quite different from ours. The houses are made only from stone and wood. Picturesque views, pure rivers, deep forests and high peaks are just a few attractions for tourists. Accommodation at a local guest house. Dinner. Overnight. 

Day 4 Kovachevitsa – Leshten 

Breakfast.Departure to Leshten Eco village- one of the most authentic places for rural tourism in Bulgaria. The village is situated in the western parts of the Rhodopes at a quiet region. Although the village is an example of typical Bulgarian National Revival architecture, it offers modern facilities. The place is unique- the houses are authentic, the small restaurants offer traditional meals and products, even you can cook your own food. All products are made by the locals. All houses and restaurants are on the main street, where you can find a variety of souvenirs and feel the local spirit and traditions. You will have an opportunity to visit the house of Boris Hristov – famous Bulgarian writer and his wife Darina – a famous painter. You could also test your adrenaline by choosing a jeep safari trip to visit “Tamnata Gora” Reserve and Kanina River Canyon. Accommodation at a local guest house. Overnight. 

Day 5 Leshten – Dolen – Yagodina 

Breakfast. Departure to Dolen – another beautiful rural area. Dolen is famous with its 350 old houses – an example of 19th century Rhodopean architecture. The houses are typically built with overhanging top stories and the roofs are made out of stone plates. Some ceilings are decorated with wood carvings. During archeological excavations, near Dolen were found an ancient village, a late ancient village, a late ancient necropolis, a late ancient fortress, a late medieval church, and the remains of a smeltery. In 1977 the village is declared a historical cultural reserve. One of the main attractions is the St. Nicholas Church, built in 1834 in a monastery school complex. The sacred images comprising the iconostasis of the church were painted by George Filipov, a painter from the region of Debar, who later moved and lived in Gabrovo. Other attractions include the street junction, known as “Kavalite”, the “Nikolovski Fountain” and the main street. Free time for sightseeing and lunch. Our journey continues with Yagodina – a small picturesque village close to numerous attractions. Free time or a short trip to Yagodina Cave, Devil’s Throat Cave or Trigrad Cave. Overnight. 

Day 6  Yagodina – Zlatograd 

Breakfast. Departure to Zlatograd Ethnographic Area Complex- the first private ethnographic complex in Bulgaria. The numerous sites, some of which have been reconstructed with the assistance of the PHARE and SAPARD programmes, disclose and reflect the natural-geographical specifics and the wealth of the millenniums-long history of the Zlatograd ethnocultural area, and above all, those of Zlatograd and the settlements in the municipality. In 2004 Zlatograd EAC was included in the 100 National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria. In 2006 the complex won the prize for the Best Ethnographic Complex in Bulgaria. Accommodation. Overnight. 

Day 7 Zlatograd – Sofia 

Breakfast. Departure to Sofia and fly back home.
