Wine Tour of Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a new wine tourist destination, but is one of the oldest countries with experience of wine producing. Of all of the Eastern European wine producing countries there can be little doubt that Bulgaria has been the most successful. This is due to the fine quality of the vinification and viticulture which has produced wines from this region since the times of the Thracians. This tour will take you to the most famous wine regions of Bulgaria where you will have the opportunity to taste some unique wine sorts and to discover the magic of the Bulgarian cuisine.


Itinerary (6 days/5 overnights):

Sofia-Lozenitsa-Sandanski-Melnik-Rozhen Monastery-Bansko-Brestovitsa-Plovdiv-Hisarya-Starosel-Sofia

Day 1 

Arrival at Sofia Airport. Panoramic tour of Sofia- Alexander Nevski Cathedral with the  crypt- the biggest icon collection in Bulgaria, Alexander Battenberg Monument, the Parliament, Ivan Vazov National Theatre, St Sofia Church, St George Church. An optional visit of Boyana Church. Accommodation at a hotel 5*. In the evening – dinner at a traditional folk style restaurant with wine tasting. Overnight

Day 2

Breakfast. Depart for Lozenitsa to visit Losenitsa Wine and Dine Winery. Wine tasting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. After lunch- depart for Sandanski-one of the most famous Spa resorts in Bulgaria. Accommodation at a 5* hotel. Free time for spa or sightseeing. Overnight.

Day 3

Breakfast.Depart for Melnik – the smallest town in Bulgaria and one of wine production centres. Lunch at Kordopulova House where you will taste Shiroka Melnishka Loza- a typical sort of wine for this region. After lunch- a short stop to see the famousl Melnik Rock Pyramids and Rozhen Monastery. Departure to Bansko- the ski capital of Bulgaria and one of the biggest tourism centers in the country. Accommodation at a 4*. Overnight.

Day 4

Breakfast. Departure to Brestovitsa to visit Todoroff Wine Cellar, regarded as the most famous place for wine tasting in Bulgaria. Wine tasting of 3 to 5 sorts, incl. “Mavrud”, typical sort for this region. After lunch – departure to Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria famous for its historical monuments and cultural sites. Accommodation at a 4* hotel .Free time. Overnight.

Day 5

Breakfast. Panoramic tour of Plovdiv, the city of King Philip of Macedonia, with more than 4000 years history. Visit the Antique Theatre, St Constantine and Elena Church, Old Plovdiv with Balabanova house, etc. Lunch at a folk style restaurant. Departure to Starosel to visit Starosel Wine Cellar. Wine tasting of some of the most famous wine sorts in Bulgaria. Accommodation at the hotel part of the wine cellar. Overnight.

Day 6

Breakfast. Visit of The largest underground temple in the Balkans- “Chetinyova Mogila”along with the mausoleum. The temple as well as nearby Thracian king’s residence under Mount Kozi Gramadi were likely built during the reign of Amatokos II (359-351 BC). Departure to Sofia Airport and fly back home.
